“Never Fear Failure”

“I’ve missed over 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot…and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

--Michael Jordon

The point Michael Jordon is stressing in the above disclosure is that you should not be paralyzed by fear. So many never take “the shot” because they are afraid of missing…Here’s the thing; you will never make the shot that you don’t take.

“Do Your Work, and Then Let It Go”
Often people will carry their accomplishments (rarely will they carry their shortcomings) almost like a badge or banner long after the work has been completed. This is, in and of itself debilitating because it fails to allow the work to stand on its own merit. Additionally, it takes the focus off of the task at hand. Whether good, bad, or neutral, do your work, and then let it go.

“The Guest House”
This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome them all! Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still treat each guest honorably. They may clear you out for some new delight. The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.

“Message of Peace”
“We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.”

--Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,
Excerpt from: I Have A Dream, delivered August 28, 1963, at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington D.C.

The preceding passage from Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech is evidence of the steadfast courage and a testament to the faith that Dr. King possessed. We should all be so fortunate to have the same courage that he demonstrated in the face of relentless resistance against the movement for equality and true freedom for all so as not to resort to the lower levels of physical violence, but maintain a higher resolve. We must have faith that “soul force” will forever prevail over “physical force.”
In this day of remembrance, let us heed Dr. King’s call and not look at the shallow exterior of our fellow humans; but instead, let us look deep, deep inside ourselves and others to see each other’s heart with compassion and tolerance.

“Thank You!!!”
Two very simple words so often go unsaid. I truly believe that becoming a good citizen, one that contributes to and supports his/her family, community, and humankind as a whole, begins with the ability to show gratitude; being grateful for the help and support that one gets, be it in the form of friendly advice or help moving into a new house, is only part of the equation. You have to have the strength to acknowledge that you didn’t do it all yourself. This takes modesty and it helps to keep you grounded.
To that end…
I extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the people that have become “fans” of Creative Genius Inc., Daily Inspiration. Your support is very encouraging and truly appreciated. In an effort to expand the flow of positive energy and “inspiration” throughout the universe, I would like to call on all of you and ask that you reach out through your network and invite your friends to become “fans” of Creative Genius Inc., Daily Inspiration. http://creativegeniusinc.blogspot.com/

“Where do You LIVE?”
Often people will live in the past in an attempt to understand why something happened or to right-a-wrong that had been done to them. Sometimes people will live in the future with grandiose fantasies of happiness when [fill in the blank] happens. For example, "I’ll be happy when I get a new car, job, house, or boss."
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m all for have goals and wanting to improve oneself and/or ones conditions; however, the place to do the work that is required to “change” an existing condition is here and now! Remember:
Yesterday is what we call “History”
Tomorrow is what we call “The Future”
Today is a gift, that’s why it’s called the “The Present”

3. Is what I’m about to say going improve on the silence that was?

“Which Wolf Do You Feed?”

An elder Cherokee Native American was teaching his grandchildren about life. He said to them, “A fight is going on inside me..It is a terrible fight, and it is between two wolves. One wolf represents fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, pride, and superiority. The other wolf stands for joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. This same fight is going on inside of you and every other person too.”
They thought for a minute and then one child asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” the old Cherokee simply replied… “The one I feed.”

“Getting Things Done”
Don’t confuse action/activity with accomplishment(s).

Often people think that because they are busy, they are getting things done [read accomplishing their goals] … Unfortunately, this I not always the case. Take, for example, a car that is stuck in the mud while the wheels are spinning round and round - this may constitute a lot of action; however, you and your car will be going nowhere. To that end, it may be useful to utilize Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) also referred to as Key Performance Measures (KPM’s). These tools are sometimes used to compliment task lists and timelines for task completion.

In a nut shell, KPI’s offer a method to gauge/measure progress toward a goal and/or task completion. A KPI may be as simple as a spreadsheet indicating a start date, completion date and intermediate progress expectations at specified junctions. Or it may be a very detailed, full on Gantt Chart. When we approach task completion with predetermined (documented) goals, coupled with measurable progress points, we are much more equipped to stay on task, remain focused and we have a useful tool that helps to validate our progress.

The War of Art, by Steven Pressfield

In this easy, quick read, Steven Pressfield brilliantly defines resistance (resistance in the context of ANY self defeating/self sabotaging behavior). He also identifies ways to recognize and counter [read: overcome] resistance in an effort to realize and bring to life that which you and ONLY you can bring into existence. What is this “thing” that you need to bring to life? It is the special and unique gift(s) that you share with the rest of us, not as a means of self promotion, but because it is what you/we are meant to do.

Begin Within
Greetings and Happy New Year! I would like to offer my personal “mantra” (Begin Within)
Though it sounds easy enough to “begin within” we often look to external sources (these sources may be in the form of other people or circumstances) for validation, change, justification, a sense(s) of worth, opportunities to re-direct responsibility (read…blame), or the satisfying of some void, the list goes on and on, you get the idea.
When we look externally we surrender not only responsibility but our power! To that end, don’t sell yourself short. Be your true self, the empowered you that can make a difference, that can be the change that is so desperately needed. But remember: said change starts with you, within YOU! “Begin Within
